The global storage and hardware solutions provider is touting the purchase as a way to round out its own IT management portfolio for addressing customer needs within physical and virtual IT environments. The idea is give business customers an even more comprehensive solution by consolidating the effort of subscribing to multiple vendors. The idea is give business customers an even more comprehensive solution by consolidating the effort of subscribing to multiple vendors.

Montreal-based Watch4net is being pegged to fit into EMC's world as it is develops business-class management software that delivers real-time, historical and projected visibility into network, data center and cloud infrastructure performance. Jay Mastaj, senior vice president and general manager of EMC's Infrastructure Management Group, commented in prepared remarks that current and next-generation IT infrastructures absolutely require real-time data and visibility.

Watch4net chief executive officer Michel Foix added in a release about the growing demand for integrated solutions as encouragement for merger. Although it is described as an "all-cash transaction," financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

The merger is also not expected to have a material impact to EMC's revenue and earnings for the full fiscal year. Salesforce leans heavily on Lightning platform to lead charge for connected apps.
