Stopped here on our way back to Karachi, after visiting Keenjhar and Thatta. The lake is beautiful A little far from Karachi and thus hard to access but a very large lake. It has a tomb on an island The best place for nature lovers in Sindh province of Pakistan. Haleji Lake is situated about 70 Kms away from Karachi in the historical district of Thatta. Although it has not been maintained sine long due to lack of funds, still it gives a glimpse of natural attraction. The complete circuit of Haleji Lake is about 12 miles.
The main water reservoir of the lake covers an area of almost 7 Sq. The shady lush green trees surround the lake with Phragmites, Typha, Hydrilla and Lotus cover some parts of the lake as well that makes the lake so colourful. Haleji Lake is a bird watcher's paradise.
As many as bird species have been recorded in the environs of Haleji lake during the winter season. This was a great fishing area. I was able to rent a kit from a nearby shop. The vegetation was nice, but overall the day was rather blustery.
It's a bit far from the main tourist areas as well. Known for being Asia's largest sanctuary for migratory birds. Birds from Siberia migrate here during the winter. There are also some marsh crocodiles. Not much else to do if you aren't a bird-watcher. Log in to get trip updates and message other travellers. Haleji Lake. Thatta, Pakistan.

The then- British Government of Sindh Province decided to increase the capacity of the lake by introducing a feeder canal from the Indus River.
