Weird book. I found a beautiful prose which describes the most atrocious acts a person is capable of doing. I was an ice cube made of fear during the whole time I was reading this thing. This is a very short book, but it gives a good introduction to the chilling motives of the countess, and it sparked my interest in this story and time period.

It was a bit hard finding the 'sense' of this book I mean, I didn't know if it was a children's book, a historical book, a romance, a biography. But anyway, it was a nice little history of Contess Bathory, the Bloody Contess. Quite scary, to be honest, even more so when you remember all of this was probably real. The illustrations help set the tone. Beautifully done but completely macabre.

Maybe this is just in the Brazilian edition, but it was the biggest piece of terror throughout the whole book, either way. May 08, Julian Onfire rated it liked it.

Making something beautiful from unpleasantness is an art and is something that Pizarnik does very well, this time presents a great personal reinterpretation of "The Blood Countess" of Valentina Penrose condensed into short chapters highly shocking and attractive at the same time, headings by characteristic authors clearly influential in the life of Alejandra: Artaud, Rimbaud, Daumal, etc.

Making us think in the person we see every day in the mirror and the darkness of our mind. With beautiful illustrations by Santiago Caruso and Alejandra Pizarnik prose. Oct 27, Alaska rated it it was amazing. And the drawings are very accurated. This book! I love it!

A few words scribbled on a slate that same month, reiterating her desire to go nowhere "but to the bottom," sum up her lifelong aspiration as a human being and as a writer. The compulsion to head for the "bottom" or "abyss" points to her desire to surrender to nothingness in an ultimate experience of ecstasy and poetic fulfillment in which life and art would be fused, albeit at her own risk.
